Almost two years ago when the studio changed hands, we were excited to share the news that we would sustain The Yoga Space as a place to learn and practice the Iyengar system of yoga. Our goals were: to take Iyengar yoga to a wider audience; to be involved in the community; and to host events where our students and teachers could come together and foster community spirit.
Our presence at Car Free days on Main Street attracted interest from newcomers, those whose Iyengar yoga spark was reignited, and our students and teachers who stopped by in show of support. The engagement in community-building events was inspiring and enjoyable: the New Year’s practices and tea; movie night to introduce students to Iyengar: the Man, Yoga, and the Student’s Journey; and the celebrations of International Day of Yoga with yoga practice in the park. Our teaching at a First Nation community was cut short by the pandemic. As the studio offerings expanded, the quality teaching for which we have become known remained constant.
Our teaching at and running of the studio has always been a labour of love—something that has given us both so much: connection with our community and the upliftment that comes from teaching what inspires and motivates us.
As we approach the two-year mark, we look to another change. Like many small businesses in this pandemic, we have been struggling to sustain the studio. The decreased student capacity required by safe distancing at the studio and increased pandemic expenditures have brought us to a point at which it is no longer possible to maintain a viable physical studio. The Yoga Space will retain its spot in the virtual realm, and the physical studio will close at the end of Fall 2 with the last class ending on Sunday, December 13.
Thank you to those who have made donations to contribute to the physical studio. Please know that those donations assisted us in meeting our expenses and helped us to provide classes through the summer and fall sessions. We are thankful for your generosity and support.
We are so very, very encouraged by our dedicated students. We look forward to seeing many of you online and we hope to see even more of you in person when we can host our outdoor events.
Join us to celebrate our practice of Iyengar yoga at the studio in this last session.
Yours in yoga,
Cheryl and Morgan
